Folliculitis is inflammation of one or more hair follicles. It can occur anywhere on the skin. It is commonly found in the neck, in the groin or on the buttocks
Causes:
Folliculitis starts when hair follicles are damaged by friction from clothing, blockage of the follicle, or shaving. Most of the time, the damaged follicles become infected with Staphylococcus (staph) bacteria.
Symptoms may include:
- Rash
- Itching
- Pimples
- Pustules
Treatment:
- Hot compressions assist the follicles to drain quicker
- Antibiotics
- Antifungals
