


Bleeding from your rectum. Blood can be dark or bright red, depending on the cause of bleeding.
Causes:
- Haemorrhoids – swollen vessels around the anus
- Anal fissure – open wound in the skin of the anus
- Anal fistula – small channel between the bowel and the skin near the anus.
- Angiodysplasia – a condition where blood vessels in the large bowel becomes enlarged
- Gastroenteritis – Diarrhoea can contain small traces of blood due to a bacteria or a viral infection
- Diverticula – Small bulges/bubbles in lining of colon, that can become inflamed
- Cancer of colon or bowel – Common cancer of the bowel
- Medication – Anti inflammatories, Warfarin
- Inflammatory bowel diseases.
