Venous ulcers are sores found on your leg or foot that takes more than six weeks to heal. It can be accompanied by pain, swelling, redness, discharge or itching.

 

Causes and risk factors:

- More common in the elderly

- Obesity

- Immobility – fractures, osteoarthritis, bed ridden, paralysis, post surgery

- Diabetics

 

Treatment:

Treatment includes cleaning and dressing of the wound. Compression bandages or stockings will improve the blood flow.

If the ulcer is infected you may need antibiotics.
