To maintain a high fibre diet is very important. It soften the stool and prevents constipation. it will also  decrease the pressure in the colon and can prevent flare ups.

 

During a flare up follow a clear liquid diet - this means NO solid food eg.

- Clear Broth

- Water

- Jelly

- Juice with no pulp

 

When you can eat solid food, stick to low fibre food which includes

- Vegetable and fruit without skin or pips

- Dairy products

- Egg

- Low fibre breakfast cereals

- Ground tender well cooked meat

- White bread, white rice and white pasta

 

After your symptoms have improved you can add 5 - 15g of fibre to your diet per day. When you have NO symptoms you canresume a high fibre diet.
