Diverticular disease is when small bulges/bubbles develop on the lining of the intestine. These can fill with small food particles and then become inflamed or infected. During inflammation or infection, it is called diverticulitis.
Symptoms may include:
- Bloating
- Abdominal pain
- Fever
Treatment:
By following a high-fibre diet and excluding food containing small pips, you can mostly prevent your diverticular disease developing into divertitulitis.
If you do develop diverticulitis (fever, severe abdominal pain), please consult your doctor.
Your treatment will include antibiotics, pain medication and a clear fluid diet.
