Diarrhoea is when you pass stool more often that is looser than usual.

Causes:

There are many causes but the most frequent causes of diarrhoea are viruses, bacteria or parasites.

Diarrhoea can also be caused as a side-effect of some medication, overuse of alcohol or caffeine or can be due to stress/anxiety.

Treatment:

The most important thing is to rehydrate. Drink frequent, small amounts of clear fluids.

Usually the diarrhoea clears up after a few days

Anti-diarrhoea medication is not necessary, unless if your symptoms persist for a long time.

It is a good idea to consult with your doctor if your diarrhoea persists for longer than three days, or if you have accompanying symptoms e.g. vomiting, abdominal pain or fever.
